This weekend and the next weekend will be the 15th annual Ultra Music Festival that will be held in Miami. For the first time ever it will be a two weekend festival. It first started in 1999 and because of success continued to come back to Miami. The festival is taken placed at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami next to the American Airlines Arena. It was a one-day festival from 1999 to 2006, a two-day festival from 2007 to 2010, and was a three-day festival in 2011 to 2012. In 2012, a record 55,000 people per day attended the festival. This year is expected to have one of the most packed crowds ever. Tickets sold out within 20 minutes and their retail price increased.

On Friday March 8, 2013 the eight grade of Doctors Charter School had their annual dance. The theme for this year was Willy Wonka. Throughout the ballroom at the Miami Shores Country Club was numerous amounts of chocolate and candy products. That was something that the kids really enjoyed! Most of the candy was Willy Wonka products like the giant pixy sticks.The dinner served was pasta with your choice of sauce or chicken strips with delicious fries. Also served was a salad bar. Many songs were played to dance to including sensation song Thrift Shop and a own version of the Harlem Shake. All in all the dance was a great time and memorable night.   

Last Saturday LeBron James had a shoe released of the name “cork”. No doubt this is one of the best all time of his shoe releases. It celebrates the cork popping championship of 2012 in which he won his first NBA title with the Miami Heat. The shoe is phenomenal with amazing detail of a shoe looking like a cork. It is completely different from the rest. Retail price was at a high 305 dollars but later dropped to 250.the only way you could have got them was if you had a raffle ticket and Nike would have sent you an email if you got the shoe to come pick it up at the store.

On Tuesday February 26, 2013 8th and 10th grade students from Florida will have their writing FCAT. Either all of 8th or 10th grade will get a expository or a persuasive prompt to write about. They have prepared for months for this test and are all ready. Recent news came out that for the very first year the writing FCAT would give 60 minutes to students to finish the test. Last year the writing FCAT was historically one of the worst ever taken. Only about 1/3 of the students passed. This was because two months before the test the state announced that they would grade harder on several parts of the writing test. It was so bad that the state had to bring the passing grade one up.

NBA ALL STAR

Between February 15 through the 17th the NBA has their annual all star game between the eastern conference and the western conference. On the first day of the festivities would be the celebrity all star game. In this event teams consists of celebrities and play each other in a basketball game. On the second day of the all star weekend is the three point shootout, skills challenge, slam dunk contest, and the all around competition. Most of that day's hype gos toward the slam dunk contest where many legends have been on previously before. And on the final day of the all star weekend is the actual game itself. The best players in the NBA, voted by you the fans would play where the east plays the west. It should be high flying, high energetic, and most of all high dunking game!

On Sunday February 10, 2013 the  Miami Heat played the Los Angeles Lakers. Lebron James, a small foward for the heat has had 4 srtaight games of at least 30 points and of at least 50% field goal percentage. If he got one vs the lakers he would have been 1 of 3 players to ever reach that accomplisment. Through the first half the heat stayed in the game, but through the fourth quarter the heat started to pull away from the Lakers. The Heat won the game eventually 107 to 97 and Lebron had 30 plus points and 50+ field goal percentage.
